According to /usr/share/calendar/calendar.history on my PowerBook, The Blues Brothers premiered in Chicago on 16th June 1980. That would make it 25 years old today.

There was a period in my life when I watched that film virtually every weekend. :-)

I watched Ronnie Corbett host Have I Got News For You a few weeks back, and it was hilarious. Even when he wasn’t telling jokes I was laughing. He could read a tax return and it’d be funny.

Last week I had a sudden revelation, and replaced the 60W incandescent bulb in my desk light with an 11W low energy bulb. Like most people these days, I have these bulbs fitted in many of the lights in the house. For some reason I never thought to put one in my desk light. It used to be too hot to touch within 5 minutes of switching it on, now it runs cool and remains easy to move around.

Yes, I know I sound like a bit of a dork putting that in my blog. :)

P.S. My desk light is an old original Luxo L-1, with a clamp rather than a base. My father-in-law gave it me when he rescued it from the office where he worked.

This lunchtime I went to the pub with a colleague. This was stenciled on the outside wall of the pub:

Update: Aha! It probably has something to do with this band.

My son James is five years old. This morning (10th January), before we left the house, we’d remarked to him that it would probably be indoor playtime today because of the weather.

It’s about 20 minutes drive from our house to James’ school. As I was walking him from the car to school, our conversation went like this:

• Me: So, what do you normally do if it’s a wet playtime?
• James: Well last time, on October 13th, year 3 and 4 came into the hall to play with us.
• Me: That’s amazing! You remember the actual date?
• James: Yes, it was Jake’s birthday.

Now the question is, should I check with his teacher to see if he’s right?

Another power cut last night. 03:10 to 04:20. Time to write a letter I think…
